Volunteer Landscape Development and Maintenance Ministry

For information or if you have questions, contact us at

Covenant Presbyterian Church was built on several acres of naturally beautiful but largely undeveloped  land.  In 2004, several members, who shared an enjoyment of working together and “getting their hands dirty’” formed a ministry both to maintain the landscaping around the church building and to develop the outlying acreage.

Beginning with a grant of 100 azaleas from the North Carolina Beautiful Azalea Festival, our first big project – other than planting azaleas – was to clean up extensive damage from Hurricane Ivan:  some 2 dozen very mature pine trees downed overnight.

Our team –“The Dream Team” (“Team work makes the dream work”), is composed of men and women and even some teenagers.  Anyone of any age is welcome to join us. We enjoy special fellowship and accomplish much on regular Thursday workdays:

A ½ -mile(+/-) walking trail around the periphery of our grounds.·

·        Spring and summer plantings on the bank along Kanuga.

·        A refurbished work shed and work area.

A perennial “Prayer Garden”, including fencing, pergola, patio, rose trellis, and awild flower path, in addition to a perennial border.  Most of the hardscape and plant materials were either given in memory or in honor of friends, or donated from other gardens.

·    Considerable improvements to the picnic area, including wheel-chair accessibility, leveled serving area, and an amphitheater.·

·        Regular grounds maintenance.

All interested members and friends of Covenant are welcomed to join or contribute to this ministry in any of the following ways:

·        Join our Thursday Team.  Give as much time as you can and enjoy the fellowship and sense of accomplishment.

·        Help as convenient – spring clean-up, summer watering, weeding, dead-heading, etc

Share from your garden.  When you are thinning, transplanting, etc. ·        let us know.  As space allows, we would love to have your transplants.

·        We are a non-budgeted ministry.  We are glad to acknowledge gifts in memory or in honor of individuals or to accept other donations to the work and expenses of “God’s Garden.”
