Summer Sermon Series

The Gospel According to Elijah and Elisha

Rev. Chip Vining

“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets,

He explained to them what was said

in all the Scriptures concerning Himself.”

(Luke 24:27)

Christians tend to be unfamiliar with much of the Old Testament and find that which they are familiar disturbing.  Many find the Old Testament less relevant to their lives than the New Testament.  Yet, the Old Testament is full of characters with whom we can identify.  Their temptations and failures set up warning signs while their courage and faithfulness set us examples to follow.  Their stories display life principles, but even more, they reveal to us God’s character – what he is like and what he has done.  The purpose of this sermon series is not merely to recount the Elijah and Elisha narratives, but also to see how they point to Christ and our faith in him.
